Recent changes to Transport Canada Small Vessel Regulations require kayaks in which a "guide" is present, to be registered. This applies to both companies operating with a fleet of boats, and for individual paddlers who use their own boat as a "guide".

Form #20: Application for Registry : PDF Here
Complete the Application for Registry and submit it to the Registrar at the Vessel
Registration Office in the National Capital Region.
Evidence of Ownership
One must produce evidence of ownership/title to the Registrar of Vessels.
- The evidence consists of a copy of the Bill of Sale/receipt or other documentation
demonstrating or transferring ownership of the vessel to the applicant for registration.
If a bill of sale is not available, one must complete a Statutory Declaration of Ownership (PDF)
The declaration must be completed before a person authorized by law to administer oaths in the Province or Territory
of Canada wherein the Declaration is made. One must give the reason why a bill of sale cannot be produced

Complete a Declaration of Ownership, to prove eligability to register vessel.

If the kayak is owned by more than one person (as in some companies), an authorized representitive must be designated.
Form #4A: Simplified Method of Tonnage Measurement :

Measure one's kayak using the Simplified Method. As part of this form, one must provide photo's of the vessel.
- These four photos must show the bow, stern, side profile, and view from deck at stern looking forward.
- Each photograph must be a minimum of 12.70 cm x 8.89 cm (5" x 3.5") in size, signed and marked to clearly identify the vessel, name of the owner and the date taken

Fees
There is a $50 fee for registering a single vessel or a "fleet" of vessels. This means a company can register all its
boats for the flat rate of $50. Once completed, the Certificate of Registry is valid for five years from date of issue.
